Here are the first aid steps to be given to a person who has been electrocuted:
- Turn off the power source if possible. If you cannot turn off the power source, use a non-conductive object such as a wooden stick or a dry piece of clothing to move the person away from the power source.
- Check the person’s breathing and pulse. If the person is not breathing, start CPR.
- Call 911 immediately.
- If the person is breathing, check for burns. Treat any burns with cold water and a sterile bandage.
- If the person is conscious, ask them how they feel. Monitor the person for any signs of shock, such as pale skin, rapid breathing, or a weak pulse.
Additional tips:
- Do not touch the person if they are still in contact with the power source.
- If the person is wet, dry them off with a non-conductive object such as a dry towel or a piece of clothing.
- If the person is unconscious, place them on their back and elevate their legs.
- If the person is vomiting, turn them on their side to prevent choking.
Please note: This is just general first aid advice. It is important to seek medical attention for any electrocution injury as soon as possible.
